OUR RESEARCH

This virtual laboratory was born in the context of a PhD program, with the aim of creating the first tool of proven validity and reliability for scientific experimentation. If you are an experimenter, you can download the app and create your own experiments in the field of associative learning and memory. As part of the VLAB community you will be able to share or use experiments that others have shared, activate and deactivate your tasks, perform pre-task or post-task tests or select participants using access keys, among many other customization and configuration options.
But, if you are a possible participant, you can download the app and participate in one of the experiments we have open now. You will help advance in the knowledge of different basic psychology processes and, in addition, you will have a good time performing a gamified task (3D game). You can run your first task entering the key: PERMANENT_EXP.

Our goal is to make this laboratory virtual and confirm that it is valid for experimental use by replicating previous work. Specifically, we hope to find the EMACS effect (Extinction Makes Acquisition Context Specific) using our app, and extend the study to the general population.

The breakthrough in our research lies in:

Literature review

We proceeded to search for experiments done with other computer applications in the area of associative learning and memory. We found other PC programs, but nothing that met the requirements we wanted: -That it can be used on a network; -That it be mobile friendly; -That it provided scientific data that confirms its validity and reliability.

Investigation project was born: "Creation of a virtual laboratory for mobiles, testing and experimental use in the field of associative learning and memory"

We presented to the evaluation committee of the University of Jaén our proposal for the creation and validation of VLAB - Virtual Laboratory. The project was approved and we started working on it, reviewing functionalities that we required, development environments, languages, network needs and many others characteristics.

VLAB development

The app was developed with in mind; on one side, the functionalities of the server needs; on other side, those of the Experimenter clients; and on other side, the Participating clients interfaces.

About Virtual Laboratory APP

As an experimenter you will be able to carry out experiments that you can control 100% and that will take the participant to the task that you have set up in a very friendly environment (easily, without the need to know how to program)

As a participant, you can receive keys to different experiments carried out by the VLAB community and perform tasks that will help advance in the knowledge of various basic psychology processes.

How it Works

Virtual Laboratory - VLAB
Be an experimenter

All you have to do is send us a request with your name, email, phone number, id card, institution to which you belong, city and country, and we will give you access so that you can prepare your own experiments.

Get your results immediatly

As you can see in the tutorials, through the app you will get your results in real time. Every time a participant finishes a task, you will be able to access their (anonymized) results.
